The 12th World Ballet Festival in Tokyo
1 August 2009 - 13 August 2009
The World Ballet Festival is a triennial ballet gala inaugurated in 1976. The world's top ballet dancers from renowned ballet companies will unite at this prestigious festival to showcase the latest and brightest of the international ballet world. During the first two weeks of August, three Australian dancers have been chosen to represent Australian Ballet: Lucinda Dunn, Robert Curran and Rachel Rawlins as part of the programme. They will join a unique international artistic array of reigning favourites and fresh faces from diverse ballet traditions. One of the most anticipated events in the Japanese calendar, this opportunity to witness the current state of 20th and 21st century international ballet should not be missed.
The gala runs for approximately 5 hours with a "Funny Gala" accompanied with male dancers in point-shoes and ballerinas dressed like boys.
